Welcome to my journey of self-discovery through the transformative power of nature. I'm Mike Martin, an outdoor adventure guide and mindfulness teacher who discovered that the path to inner peace often leads through the wilderness.
My story began in the aftermath of a challenging divorce that left me questioning everything I thought I knew about life and myself. In my darkest moment, I made a decision that would forever change my trajectory – I stepped away from the conventional world and into the embrace of nature through an extended solo backpacking expedition.
What started as a personal healing journey has evolved into a passionate mission to help others find their own path to renewal through mindful outdoor experiences. Through my guided hiking experiences, speaking engagements, podcasts, and now my ongoing walk with type 1.5 diabetes, I share the profound lessons I learned during those transformative days in the wilderness.
The mountains taught me that like nature itself, we too have the incredible capacity to endure, adapt, and flourish through different seasons of life. The serene mountain lakes showed me how to reflect deeply, while the challenging trails demonstrated the importance of taking life one step at a time. These insights now form the foundation of my approach to helping others reconnect with themselves through nature.
Today, I combine my extensive outdoor experience with mindfulness practices to create unique adventures that go beyond typical hiking experiences. Whether you're joining one of my guided expeditions, listening to my podcast, or attending a speaking event, my goal is to help you discover the same healing and clarity that nature offered me.
My approach is rooted in the belief that nature is our greatest teacher and healer. Through mindful interaction with the outdoors, we can find answers to our deepest questions, heal our emotional wounds, and rediscover our authentic selves.
Join me in exploring not just the physical landscapes of our beautiful world, but also the internal territories of personal growth and self-discovery. Together, let's embark on a journey that leads to lasting transformation and inner peace.
Diabetic Mentorship
February 2025, when I was diagnosed with type 1.5 diabetes—an unexpected and life-altering experience that emerged following a severe episode of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). This initial shock was compounded by a lack of resources and education on how to effectively manage my condition.
Determined to take control of my health, I embarked on a months-long journey of research and self-discovery, navigating the complexities of diabetes management through trial and error. With perseverance and a commitment to understanding my body, I finally achieved stability in my health.
Recognizing the challenges faced by others newly diagnosed with diabetes, I made it my mission to assist those in similar situations. My passion for advocacy led me to partner with Breakthrough T1D, where I serve as a mentor to individuals navigating their own diabetes journeys. Through this collaboration, I aim to provide support, education, and encouragement to empower others to manage their health with confidence.
As a certified Mindful Hiking Guide and Wilderness First Responder, Mike blends outdoor adventure with mindfulness practices to create transformative experiences in nature.

Mindfulness Journey
My journey began in the depths of my own struggles with depression and anxiety. It was during this challenging time that I discovered the healing potential of the great outdoors.
Seeking a new perspective, I turned to hiking and mindful exploration in nature. Each trail I traversed became not just a physical journey, but also a path to mental clarity and emotional resilience. Through my experiences, I have learned to embrace the present moment, finding joy and solace in the beauty of the world around me.
Wilderness 1st Responder
As a youth grandfather instilled in me the values nature and helping my fellow man., where I was fortunate to learn a diverse array of outdoor skills from my grandfather. These formative experiences ignited a lifelong passion for nature and survival. Over the years, I have studied with some of the most skilled outdoorsmen and women, as well as with various Native American tribes, enriching my understanding of the land and its traditions.
As I embarked on a self-discovery journey, I realized my calling was to assist others during their time in the wilderness. This revelation propelled me to pursue extensive training as a Wilderness First Responder, equipping me with the skills to provide critical care in remote settings. I received my training in Wilderness 1st and search and recuse through the Survival Med academy a branch of Colardo State University and went on to a attend the Emergency Life Save Institute.
